Learn To Let Go

I woke up this morning and said to myself "Wouldn't it be cool to write short stories based on music titles?". So I asked my best friend that question and she replied saying "Oh, it's cool! Why don't you try using Ke$ha's Learn To Let Go hit song and let me see if it will be good". I nodded with a "Yes" and decided to start with Ke$ha's Learn To Let Go. Here it goes:-

LEARN TO LET GO

Emma grabbed a piece of gum from her friend Emily and smiled.
"Hey, give that back!" Emily said angrily trying to take the gum off Emma's palm. Emma quickly shoved the gum into her mouth and starting chewing it with a weird smile.
"Oh okay. It's on" Emily said angrily and walked away.
"Urmmm, what's on?" Emma asked chasing after Emily.

The two best friends walked closely together till they spotted Emma's ex who was busily drooling over the new girl on campus.
"He's such a PIG! Can't believe you dated such a dude!" Emily said angrily.
"Well, aside that, he's quite good with his tongue" Emma joked.

They laughed and sat in an Uber Emily had ordered earlier. Emma and Emily have been friends since childhood. They both share a room at the same hostel.

Emma's phone rang, she looked at the caller ID and ignored the call.
"Is that him?" Emily asked. "I think it's high time you forgive your dad" She continued.
"Forgive him? He killed my MOM Emily! My MOM!" Emma said angrily.

She stood up shaking her head. Tears drooled down her soft cheeks.
"All my mom did was to love that man. She did nothing wrong to deserve what he did to her." Emily said.
"That was 16 years ago Em. He's your dad. Try and go see him". Emily insisted.

Before Emma could answer, her brother, Kweku popped up and said "Hey sis, it's dad. He wants to speak to you". He handed his phone to Emily.

"Sweety?" Mr. Nyarko said over the phone in his prison jumpsuit.
"YES?" Emma replied.

They spoke for 20 minutes. "So? Are you going to see him?" Kweku asked his sister. She ignored him, took her car keys, turned on the ignition and drove off.
"Urmm If her car was working, why the heck did you guys pick an Uber?" Kweku asked Emily. Emily pretended not to hear his question and entered into the bathroom.

Emma visited her dad at Prison. She sat down, nervously waiting for her dad to pop up.
"You look exactly like your mother" Mr. Nyarko said hugging his daughter.
"That's the point of life. You grow up, die or get murdered" Emma replied.
"I'm sorry for what happened to your mom sweety." He said, brushing his daughter's brown silk hair with his bare left palm.
"Ew dad, I'm not 3 anymore" Emma pulled away.

They spoke for 15 minutes and finally said their goodbyes. At the entrance of the Prison's Main gate, Emily met one of her Uncles, Paul.

"You finally came?" That's nice. They hugged and said their goodbyes.

Emma got home pretty late and found her brother still awake jamming to Celly Chordz' cover of Shatta Wale's My Level hit song.

"Is that Celly Chordz? She asked.

"Yup! Hey, how did it go?" Kweku asked.
"I have to admit....It was kinda cool seeing Dad again." Emma replied her brother.
"Does it mean you're finally going to forgive him for what happened to mom?" Kweku asked again.
"I don't know. It hurts so much thinking about what happened to mom. It could have been avoided easily." Emma said sobbing.
"It was an Accident Em. He never meant to hit her." Kweku said.
"An accident? YOU CALL THAT AN ACCIDENT?" Emma shouted.

Emily woke up due to noise Emma made.
"What's going on?" Emily asked.

Kweku told her all what happened. Emily sat close to Emma and tried to convince her to learn to learn to let go off the hatred she had for her dad. She just wouldn't stop shouting. This made Kweku angry and he got up.

"I'm sick and TIRED of your childish behavior Em! You wanna know what happened to MOM? Well! You happened!" Kweku said angrily.
"What do you mean by that?" Emma asked.
"You wanna know who killed mom? YOU DID!" Kweku said.
"Killed MOM? Dad did! Are you sick or something?" Emma asked with Emily supporting her.

"You were barely 6 years old when it happened. Dad was still at work. I was in the bathroom showering. I heard a gunshot, rushed to the scene and saw your holding one of Grand Pa's hunting guns. You accidental shot MOM Em!" Kweku said.

Emma couldn't believe it. She spent 16 years, hating her dad for something he didn't do.

"I called Dad from work and he returned home. I was 17 by then so I decided to talk the fall for it but dad insisted he did. So he turned himself over to the police and was given 20 years LIFE in prison.

Emma couldn't stop crying. Emily hugged her best friend tightly.

Emma rushed that to Prison the following day, hugged her dad tightly and asked him to forgive her.

"I hated you all these years that due to pain I felt every time I think about Mom. I know the truth now. I'm so sorry"

Mr. Nyarko hugged his daughter tightly and cried.

"I get released in a few months time due to my good behavior. Wanna visit mom together when I'm out?" He asked

"Sure dad" She replied.

Emily took out her phone and updated her facebook status:-

"Learn to let go off past hurts"
